Weekly Fire Alarm Testing Shipley.
If your business has a fire alarm you may well know that, under fire safety legislation, it must be serviced annually. However, it is also a requirement that you test it weekly.
The weekly test should occur at the same time every week so that employees know it is a test and not a genuine alarm. They should also know that even at that time should the activation not be silenced quickly that they should then assume this is a genuine alarm and start the evacuation procedure.
Best practice is to test a different manual call point every week, when they have all been tested then start at the beginning again. Testing the same call point every week would only test the integrity of just a small part of the system on just one zone.
If the fire alarm is monitored, then it should be placed on test with the monitoring station first. Then activate a call point by using a test key, allow the sounders to briefly sound, then silence the main control panel with either a key or a code. Reset the call point then reset the control panel. Ensure everybody heard the alarm in all areas of the building. Finally record the test in your fire safety logbook.
Should you have a fire safety inspection from your local fire officer then you can be certain that an inspection of your fire safety logbook and current fire-risk assessment will be high on the agenda.
Should you not wish to take on this additional responsibility we would be happy to quote to provide weekly testing for you.
